Blizzard announced today that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the third expansion for its critically acclaimed MMORPG, has sold through more than 4.7 million copies as of its first month of release, setting a new record for monthly PC-game sales.
With day-one sales topping 3.3 million copies, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm became the fastest-selling PC game of all time, shattering the previous record, which was held by the second World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. We definitely want to give Blizzard and WOW: Cataclysm some of love because that’s lot of games sold, but you can definitely see the slowdown based on Blizzard’s own numbers. More than half of the total games sold were sold on Day 1, but with games like this you expect that kind of drop off. Anyway, congrats again to Blizzard.
